Part Seven
By Soshika
How long had it been now? How many hours..days..months...maybe even years now?
The world was wandering by, and he was entirely outside of it at this point. It was no longer even his choice to be, it was as if the world was rejecting him. He faded in and out of control, now, having moments of time where he could remember being awakened but never having slept, or times where he would suddenly find himself in the middle of walking some place without any idea how he had come to be going in that direction or where he was headed. Whatever they were giving him, now, it was slowly making him fade from existance.
Images flashed in and out of his mind, but sometimes he barely felt them there now. It seemed, almost, like someone else was looking at them beside him, taking over in control. They would take him and interview him like this now, unable to focus his thoughts or control the images or feelings inside him. He hated it, but couldn't even bring his body to rebel enough to make the anger more than a simple thought.
"Interview six with subject 01. Subject is showing marked improvement since the use of anti depressants, and is sometimes able to hold conversations. Orderlys inform us that the Project is currently eating regular meals and sleeping at normal hours, and no longer needs the constant attention he previosly did. Interview comencing."
He couldn't see the room through their eyes, suddenly. Even his eyes seemed distant and disconnected. He tried to move, but found himself no longer in control.
"Good morning. We established last interview that you call yourself Grey, would you like to tell us why? We got cut short."
Grey? He had told them what she had first called him? He didn't remember doing that. Without his concent, seemingly, his voice spoke. It was far more ordered and calm, much like the voices of the shapes. "Yes. You see, I feel I am not like you. I feel that I am somehow different in an undeterminable way. I am neither evil nor good, though. I am something in between the two worlds. I am Grey." He watched as the shape scribbled franticly, probobly writing on a notepad with a pen that he could not see, now that this new part of him was in control. He felt emotions flaring out of control inside of him, fears and angers and hates at the injustice being served. The thing in control flinched but no one noticed.
"Highly interesting," murmured one of the shapes. "You then have an understanding of your origin?"
He franticly struggled to shake his head, to ask questions, but to no avail. The thing in control knew, though. "Yes. I was created from a human embryo spliced with animal DNA structures. My mother was killed shortly after my birth, and I have had a long history of social rejection. But I think I am over that now, thankfully."
Deep down inside, he was in shock. His mother...killed? Embryo, splicing...how did this part of him know these things? He felt terrified, frantic, panicked like he had when he had found out they were planning to disect him.
The shapes looked taken aback. They appeared ready to ask a question, but didn't. Instead, the main shape cleared its throat and spoke again. "Can you see this computer screen, Grey?"
For once, the two sides of him agreed. "No."
The shape seemed confused. "What do you see?"
Against his will, Grey found himself standing, speaking. "I see the heat, Dr. Schubert. I see in a light-heat spectrum, not the same as your own. Although I do see some things...Some things which...you would-" Panicking, the physical form of Grey flinched a moment and fell back into the chair, his re-taking control suddenly and drawing his knees up to his chest. He refused to speak, only shook, hugging himself.
"What else do you see, Grey?" pressed the shape. He could see the images now, although they seemed to be washed over by a level of static. Images of wires, diodes, all manner of things hooked up to him. He was unsure if the image was real or projected, and simply shook more. "What do you See?" The voice was growing more irritated.
"Nothing," he finally whispered harshly, digging his nails into his bare legs. Little moist dropplets beated on his fingernails as he began to scratch, tearing at his skin, afraid. "Nothing, nothing, nothing-"
"Sedative!"
You RUINED it for us. The voice that had a few moments ago been in control roared in his ears as he lay, drugged, unable to move, strapped to a table. The heat from above was dull and yellow, and right in his eyes. A lamp was there, he could tell. The Voices and images were clear, now, which meant he was back in control, at least a little bit. This new part of himself was angry though. Very angry.
"I am the Darkness," he muttered softly to himself. "Nobody should know what I see."
We could have been ONE of them! You inferior fool, you pitiful freak! Thanks to you now, we'll never be their equal. There was no comforting dripping sound now, nothing to take his mind away from the voice. Only the glow of the light. We're doomed inferiors now, do you hear? Inferior! Worthless! That was why she left, because you weren't worth her time!
"I won't listen to you." He had no idea where this part of him had come from, and desperately wished for someone to enter the room and save him. Anyone, so long as they weren't inside with him.
Of course you'll listen, laughed the voice. I'm better than you. You don't understand this because you won't listen, but I do. We are inferior, they are superior. Humans are the ultimate race. If you had let me keep going, we could have become one of them-
"We'll NEVER BE LIKE THEM!" Grey found himself screaming, struggling against what bound him down. Realizing that it indeed was straps and not his own body, he struggled harder. Being held down was putting yourself in danger, he ranted over and over. He couldn't let them take him apart, he wouldn't let them use him as a toy-
Come on, fool. Come on, freak. Break, cry, you know you want to. The voice was jeering, sadistic. Fall apart, little demon. You want to cry. You want to panic. I dare you. You can't, can you? Coward. Weakling.
"Shut up!!" Grey was shaking now, shaking and throwing himself against the straps. Warm and red in his vision, blood made his hands slick and sticky, the straps cutting into his skin as he threw himself from side to side with such force the entire table shook. "Shut up, shut up! Leave me alone! I haven't done anything to you!"
Nobody cares about you. Nobody. You have nothing. You are nothing! Little nothing, little sick experiment. Little toy-"
The last one broke all of Grey's carefully placed walls that had stood past drugs and time and burrowed into him. They had tried thousands of things to make him give in, but it had taken something from his own mind to cause him to snap. A tear blinked out of his eye and landed on the floor, still glowing slightly red. From his hands, the white glow was growing again, all the emotions flying free. "NO!" trembling, the emotions took control, forcing him into the back of his own mind as the other personality surged free and snared control.
"YES! Yes my little pretty, I'm in control now, you little plaything. And I'll make sure that no one has to suffer through your pitiful company ever again." Raising his hands, Grey was shocked to find his power channeled into the straps as they melted away, falling to the floor in glowing white puddles. His body was standing now, standing and rushing across the room, bashing things aside with his hands, searching with blind eyes for something that was sharp- anything. They all gave off the same amount of heat, and he couldn't see individual things.
I'll stop you before you go anywhere, I will! Both of them scrambled for the same item, although they did not know it. Clenching a hand tightly around something, Grey felt a sharp end enter his skin and glance off bone. There was no pain- there never had been. Pulling the scalpal free, he twirled it adeptly in his fingers and slashed down at his arms and wrists, slashing again and again. The scalpal slipped from his fingers as the blood made it too slick to hold, and Grey suddenly realized what he had done. With a laugh, he stood back triumphantly.
"Look at that, you little worm! We both wanted the same thing in the end- death! Too bad there's no place in the afterlife for you or I- we're simply condemed to wander the earth as broken demons!"
NO! You tricked me!
"Of course! What else would I have done? I am, after all, the superior, my little animal. My little pet." He laughed again, but abruptly dropped to the floor.
I won't let you kill me, I can't. I am the Darkness, I am Grey! Not you! You are only a Human! You are my creators- I hate you! I despise you! Fighting for control, he twisted on the floor, the two opposing forces fighting within with a war of images and hates. Death, dying...he didn't fear these but the Human in him did. He sent them out, out by the thousandfold. All the times any person had ever sent him an image of his death, he sent it right back at himself. He died a thousand times over, again and again. You wanted your death, enjoy it! Take it! DIE, you monster! Even Demons have some honor!
"You can't win, they'll drug you again and you'll lose control of me- You can't block me out!"
Screaming, shaking, curling and uncurling on the blood smeared floor, Grey smashed his head against the tile in panick, trying to destroy either himself or the entity inside. With a final, ragged gasp of air, he twisted his spine backwards, hugging his midsection, on his side upon the cool blue, glowing floor. "I stopped her- I CAN STOP YOU!"
With a spasmatic curling inward, he shivered once and lay still on the floor, blood trickling out, fanning about him like a pair of crimsion wings on the cool tile.
The door burst open as the doctors ran in, their moniter suddenly spiking. They beheld the blood, the broken table straps, the shattered viles and jars and the torn form of the creature they had created, lying limp on the floor. Ahead, hanging on the wall, the computer screen still blipped brain waves.
Silver....Blue. Silver...Blue. Silver...Blue...
Slowly, like a sinking stone, the blue faded and floated to the bottom of the moniter, joining the gold line there in a straight, unthinking, dormant line. The silver, still alive and bright, twisted and bucked like a roller coaster, free again, at least for the time being. He was the Darkness- nothing more.
The End
