Part Three
By Soshika
This time when they came, he was standing. He wasn't struggling with his own body or his feelings, their smell didn't frighten him. He watched their shapes and ignored the flashing images in his mind. He would prove he was like they were. He was Human.
Whatever they had put in his food again crawled through his blood but he forced it away and ignored it. It would do nothing now, he wouldn't let it. The shapes stopped abruptly when they saw him, he could fell them jolt in the air. The smell of fear was suddenly almost overwhelming, and Grey found himself stepping back, offended.
"You're...awake..today.." One of the shapes moved forward hesitantly and took his arm, but Grey jerked it away and glared, which made the shape leap back, afraid. Grey got the image of his own eyes, which were like something out of a nightmare. He shivered inwardly as the thoughts the man must have been getting rushed in- monsters, demons, things that crawled through his mind while he slept and terrorized his dreams. Grey shook them off with a growl.
"I can walk by myself," he snapped. "I am Human. Not an animal."
The other shape sent the image of him as some sort of stupid beast, and he turned on the man, glaring. He would not be treated like a monster again. He was Human, she had said it, and she was always correct. "You doubt me? What exactly makes you human, can you even tell me?"
"Listen here, you shut up and come along!" The first shape moved up behind him, he could feel the movement in the air. Grey spun on his heel and caught the man's wrist in his hand and twisted, the man crying out as the bones creaked against one another under the flesh.
"Human shape? Human thoughts?" Grey forced himself to fight the animal growls in his throat and continued to twist the man's wrist around until it snapped and hung limp. With a glare of contempt, he sent the man back. The shapes were now glowing orange and white- afraid. "I have those things. Just because you made me, that does not make you better."
"Sedative!" Shouted the shape whose wrist had been broken. The other moved with nearly lightning speed at Grey with the needle, but he sidestepped gracefully like a cat and caught the man's arm in one hand.
"You won't need that," he spoke evenly, calmly. "Never again."
"He's out of control!" yelped the man he was holding, struggling. Grey was vaugely aware that other shapes were gathering, other shapes that hadn't been born but made. Others who weren't called Human..but were.
Anger flared inside of Grey. "I am perfectly in control!" He shouted, loosing his temper a moment. A bright white flare came from his hands and he looked there in shock, dropping the man. Squeals and images assualted him, images of his hands glowing a strange red colour. A jolt to his stomach, and Grey staggered back a moment. What was this? What...where...?
A sudden shove in the side, and Grey saw the image from one of the other shapes point of view again- a needle in his side, somewhere around his ribs. He felt there, and surely it was protruding from his side. He felt his insides growing unnaturally sleepy and struggled against it. He wasn't going to be drugged and dragged away like an animal! He was Human! He didn't deserve to be tested on!
"NO!" Grey gripped the sides of his head and fell to his knees as more images flashed into his head. Images of him being dragged away, some of him being hit with more needles...so many at once, he couldn't tell which were real, which were happening. The shapes in front of him danced and jumped, milling in confusion and he could smell the fear. The white light was around him again, in his eyes because of the close proximity of his hands. Images...more...of him and his glowing hands. Nobody knew what was happening, not even her. Her voice was there, but it couldn't reach through. His limbs were growing heavy...the shapes were glowing brighter...
There was a dripping sound...That was the first thing he was aware of. Dripping somewhere in the room, somewhere nearby. An involuntary twitch in one of his limbs caused Grey to open his eyes and look. Sterile blue again...he was back..but this time...he was a Human.
"Oh good, it's awake." A shape entered, sending images of Grey to himself. Strapped down again...Against his will and...
Oh no...
"Today, gentlmen, we disect this one. Something's not quite right with his brain, you see. He seems to be able to recieve brain waves from anyone within a five hundred mile radius, the closer the more prominant of course..."
The voice droned off into darkness as Grey started panting. No...They were going to cut him to peices, to spread him around like a toy and look at his insides. To break him apart before he was even together and...
"NO!"
The shapes turned to look, and Grey was lashing against the straps, twisting with a fevered terror. Never again, never again...no...not a lab rat, not something to take apart after it was made...he wouldn't let them...
The biggest shape, the one talking, made a snapping sound and raised his arm. "We need another sedative, this one happens to thrash a lot during procedures..."
Images were flashing faster and faster in Grey's mind, images from all over. There were places where the ground was green, many other people and faces and things...things like...like those who died, only worse, but they weren't evil or wrong just...And along with it all came the flashes of colour across his vision. The smells of the room all compacted and built up. Fear, cold, creatures, monsters, shapes, death.
With a roar, Grey threw himself against the straps again, something in his left hand snapping like the man's hand had before he was brought here. Suddenly he could slip it through the binding, although he could no longer move it. It didn't matter, he would get out. He wasn't theirs anymore, even though the shapes showed him, now coated in red with his chest cut apart, naked on a metal table. People bent over him with tools, moving around- he wouldn't let it happen.
"Dear God, he's broken his wrist to get free!"
Broken? It didn't matter. The words began to clang without connotation in Grey's mind as he twisted again and was able to snap the other hand free with the added momentum. This one he could still move at least. Growling, Grey broke himself free and stood, spattering tears and blood onto the cold blue floor. Slowly, he looked at the shapes around him as they all stepped back.
Spat...spat...spat...
The sound of blood dripping. The sound of tears dripping. That had been what had awakened him, the tears. Reaching with his good hand up to his face, Grey felt the little warm beads coming from his eyes in confusion. Not blood...tears...What had she said...?
It didn't matter. She had been wrong. They were going to kill him now, and he would never forgive her for allowing this. She wanted him dead, just like anyone else. Rage glowed within Grey, and the white light flickered into his vision, the shapes scuttling together to the far wall.
"What...what in the name of the Ruler..."
The tears stopped.
Snarling, he lowered his hands and looked up at them. They glowed and pulsated in his vision, glowing targets of heat. They were meat. They were his creators, and he hated them. He was a demon. He was Darkness, he was Grey.
They tried to run, but he was faster. Launching himself from a standing position on the ground, he twisted in midair and landed hard on the back of one of the shapes, closing his good hand around the Human's head in a death grip only to find the white light flare brighter as the shape's head shattered in his hand, orange flecks of light flying in all directions.
Then there was a scream...a horriable, dying, mental scream within his mind. It burned its way inside, and Grey knew, right then, that it would never go away.
AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHIIIIIII!
Snarling and yelping at the sound, Grey tumbled off the back of the dead Human and scuttled backwards, but the other shapes were racing around the room trying to get something. He saw flashes of images in their minds- of needles, of poles, of something to stop him with. He wouldn't be taken, never again! Terrified by the scream that still hadn't ceased in his mind, Grey raced at one of them and leapt, striking out with one of his hands. The man's chest glowed from three feet away with the whiteness and exploded into orange spots, the shape growing cold and blue and toppling backwards. Another scream ripped into Grey's head and he twisted around, screaming as well, gripping the sides of his own head in agony.
More shapes! More moving! They had to be the cause of the pain, the screaming, they had to be! Franticly, Grey reached out a glowing hand to them as they shouted and tried to scramble out of the way. Too late, because the light flew across the room - Red in their visions, white in his- and each one of them burned away before his eyes, the screams only worse in his mind. More screams, more and more, and Grey was running.
Running, the glow was growing, and they were falling, oranges spraying and blues glowing in but the white prevaded...the screams tore through it all, demonic and unrelenting, and beat on him. The insides of his head felt ready to explode, and finally, he fell. He fell to his knees, gripping his head, loosing balance and landing on his side on the cold, blue floor. Panting, franticly curling up to get away, Grey shivered. He would never be Human again. He would never let her speak again. The screams would never leave him alone, the Screaming would never stop now...
As Grey lay, shivering, on the cold floor of the facility hallway, people were moving to catch him again. He wouldn't fight now, he couldn't fight with the Screams, not for a while at the least. Behind him the hallways were smeared with blood, bodies lying where they had fallen, his bare footprints marked in blood down the hallway to where he too had fallen, pale as any of their corpses, but alive and shaking. It wasn't over- the nightmare wasn't over yet.
