Reflective Vision

Part Two
By Soshika

He was awake again. Awake and the shapes were moving quickly, back to their normal speed. He was alone now too- this always happened. He tried to move his arms and legs...no luck. Either they were strapped down or broken. Either was possiable.

The room was bright and blue, cold and sterile. He could see the blue light glowing, almost eclipsing hte brilliantly glowing red ones. They were excited- cheerful. His head was spinning with at least twenty visions at once. Twenty people all seeing the room and him from different angles. They were all spinning and spinning and thinking and talking...

His thoughts began to mingle with theirs...an indeterminable tangle of thought flying around the room. His heart beat faster, his body twitched a moment and he jerked to the side, but was still unable to move. Voices..inside and outside and...

I am the Darkness...I am...

The best one so far, despite these odd anomolies...such as..

You aren't like them, why do you pretend?

The eyes and of course the...

Can it hear us? Can it see us?

Demon! DEMON!

You're not like us you were NEVER like us!

I am..I am....

Lack of pain is the most significant and...

The images stopped flashing suddenly and concentrated on one thing. A machine. He could see it flashing in his mind. A waved line bucked up and down, bright white and on a screen. It bucked in six places at least, like a rollar coaster. Grey felt suddenly linked to the line, at peace, buffeted by it. One of the swirling lines on it calmed and lay almost flat. The voices resumed, more centered this time.

"His brain waves show something that's usually only present in...lesser beings. Or humans with mental illness. Seperate patterns, almost like there's more than one person within him. The experiment I plan to run will conclude whether these are his own, or ...of outside origin."

A wave of panic flushed through him and the dormant line on the screen jumped in response. A growl escaped him...he was feeling..feeling...

"It appears he can hear us. All the better." One of the shapes moved away and brought something close, something that smelled and squeaked. Images flew at him, images of needles and wires and tubes and things he couldn't even identify. He tried to move again and through their eyes could see he indeed was tied down, and not broken. The first peice of equipment was brought close and he lurched towards it, blood flashing red in his images. He felt nothing though. Nothing at all and lunged again. Twisting and struggling, he moved, the images flying apart again. The screen still bucked from somewhere, the shapes all flying. One was stretching to all ends of the spectrum, glowing different colours. Another beneith it phased in and out, as if it was almost not there at all.

Get them! GET THEM! GET AWAY! something much nearer to him shouted. With a roar, Grey arched his spine, trying to break the strap that held down his chest. No more! He wouldn't take this! No!

"Damn him! Every time! We need another seditive in him."

"Is that safe? Higher doses might-"

"He won't feel it anyway. Administer!"

Another flash of an image, a needle as large as life flying and sinking into his arm. He couldn't feel it but he bit in that direction. Something caught in his hand, something glowing in red and he bit and tore at it. A scream ripped through both his mind and ears, and he let go abruptly, falling back, his limbs going iron and the shapes glowing and blurring. He saw mental images of himself again...Images of him still and contained, connected to a thousand wires. He worried..

He sat alone in a corner, his spine to the spot where the two walls met. There was only one side exposed, and that was his front. He could hear the people around him and see the shapes moving. He could feel their images bouncing against his mind and shivered. But he was safe this way. They had gaped when he had come back...The cuts from his struggling were deep and across his whole body, leeching through the white hospital fabric he saw himself wear. He could watch his sides from here, now though. He was safe.

Her voice whispered past all the others, a clear sound like a bell. She had come back. He could see her in his mind now.

"Grey..." She was golden and large as any of the shapes, but lovely. She was safety to him. He didn't need walls to be safe with her. "Grey, you let it go today. You let the Animal go."

The world within expanded around them. He wasn't with them anymore. He could hear them and feel them reacting as he spoke aloud, but he couldn't have cared less. He wasn't even aware he was speaking in their presence. It was only to her. "I was afraid..."

"It's okay to be afraid, Grey, but you can't just let go. The Human part of you is very important. Understand this."

"I am not Human. I am a Demon."

Her golden eyes narrowed into little slits. Her name was Drakia. "You are not a demon."

"I am the Darkness- I am Grey."

"You are only what you decide yourself to be. Feel your face, Grey." She bowed her head, her wings spread out in a comforting motion.

Grey obeyed blindly, touching a finger to his cheek which was now dry with caked blood. Under his eye, he found it wet. Bringing away his hand, he looked. The colour on his hand was warm. He turned back to her. "Is it blood?"

"It is a tear, Grey, something all Humans create. You are a human, Grey, somewhere inside." The golden being moved closer to him and curled her tail in front of her legs. "You are Human."

"I am...I..." Grey blinked, and felt another drop of water hit his bare foot. It was warm too, glowing slightly pale orange and fading to a blue. He couldn't understand this strange thing. It wasn't blood...what was it and what did it do? Why were they coming from him? A Human thing? Did Humans do this when they were through with bleeding, when they were safe?

"When you cry," Drakia began to speak again, "You are alone. You are lonely and afraid and in pain, Grey."

"I can't feel those things."

"You can. All humans can. Just listen to the Human inside. Let him speak to me."

The world seemed to phase and felt different. Grey felt strange sitting like he was, suddenly, and straightened against the wall. He desperately resented the side of him which had fought, earlier, and whiped at his cheek to brush away the blood. He wasn't an animal, he didn't need blood on his face.

"Grey," Drakia's voice resounded in his mind, something that completely washed away the sounds of the others. "Grey, what are you?"

"I am Human."

"Then be brave."
